Robert Watson is an award-winning author, historian, media commentator, and community leader who has published 40 books and hundreds of scholarly articles and chapters on an array of topics in history and politics. His recent books America’s First Crisis, The Nazi Titanic, and The Ghost Ship of Brooklyn have won national book awards, been featured at major literary festivals, and appeared on C-SPAN’s Book TV program.

A frequent media commentator, Watson has been interviewed thousands of times by hundreds of major media outlets in the US and abroad, including CNN, BBC, New York Times, MSNBC, and NPR, to name a few, and he was, for many years, the political analyst for WPTV 5 (NBC) and WFTL 850 AM, a Sunday columnist for the Sun-Sentinel newspaper, and co-host for a Sunday morning television news show, all in Florida.

Dr. Watson has co-convened several national conferences on topics in history and politics, co-founded the annual Truman Legacy Symposium, and served on the boards of numerous presidential foundations, scholarly journals, and community organizations. He has been a visiting scholar at the Truman Presidential Library, Ford Presidential Museum, Mount Rushmore, West Point, James Madison’s Montpelier, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Museum of the American Revolution, Illinois Holocaust Museum, National Archives, and numerous other historic sites and organizations and is Senior Fellow with the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship.

Watson has received numerous awards for his civics programs for schools, media commentary, and civility initiatives against hate and anti-Semitism, is a popular lecturer on luxury cruise ships, and has won a half-dozen “Professor of the Year” awards at three different universities. He prides himself on offering fun, informative, and lively lectures suitable for wide audiences. Dr. Watson holds the title Distinguished Professor of American History and Director of Project Civitas at Lynn University.
